Katrina Pelekanakis’ early love for science and art has come together with her love for Iyengar yoga. As BKS Iyengar states, “Yoga is an art, a science, and a philosophy.” Katrina has been a dedicated student of Iyengar yoga since her first yoga class and has continued to follow the path of yoga and the teachings of BKS Iyengar and his family. Using the fundamentals from the Iyengar tradition, Katrina’s yoga teachings focus on body alignment, muscular balance, development of strength, and flexibility. Through the use of yoga props, such as blocks, straps, blankets, bolsters, and chairs, Katrina is able to teach to many different types of bodies and levels of yoga.
Katrina has had the good fortune to study with various Senior Iyengar Yoga teachers. She currently studies with her primary teacher, Carrie Owerko, at the Iyengar Yoga Institute of New York. In 2012, Katrina passed her Iyengar Yoga Assessment for Introductory II becoming a Certified Iyengar Yoga Teacher. Katrina has benefited immensely from her yoga studies and finds yoga both exciting and inspiring. Katrina is grateful for the opportunity to be able to share her love and knowledge of Iyengar yoga with others.
